Yordan Kamdzhalov
Introduction
Yordan Kamdzhalov has just been announced as General Music Director of the City of Heidelberg from the season 12/13, a post which combines the duties of Music Director and Principal Conductor for the Heidelberg Opera and the Heidelberg Philharmonic Orchestra.
Highlights for the season 11/12 and beyond include guest appearances with the Philharmonia Orchestra, the DSO-Berlin, the Basel Symphony Orchestra, the Orchestra della Toscana, the Gävle Symphony Orchestra, the Orquestra Sinfonica Portuguesa, the Sofia Philharmonic, the Latvian National Symphony, a US tour with musikFabrik Köln, and a European tour with Helsinki Baroque and Vesselina Kasarova. He has just conducted the premiere and a highly successful series of performances of a new production of Carmen at the Komische Oper in Berlin. Later this year he will return to the Komische with Tales of Hoffmann.
Yordan Kamdzhalov was awarded the First Prize at the 2009 Jorma Panula Conducting Competition in Finland and was a laureate at the 2010 International Gustav Mahler Competition in Bamberg. He is also an alumni of the Allianz Kulturstiftung’s International Conductor’s Academy.
