Rosemary Joshua's recent apearances on the stage have included Anne Trulove The Rake's Progress and Despina Così fan tutte at Covent Garden; Vixen The Cunning Little Vixen and Tytania A Midsummer Night's Dream at La Scala; Oscar Un ballo in maschera, Vixen and Helen in the world premiere of Manfred Trojahn's Orest for the Netherlands Opera and Adèle Die Fledermaus at the Metropolitan Opera, New York.
This season she sings the title role in a new production of The Cunning Little Vixen for the Opéra National du Rhin and her future plans include Despina in staged performances of Così fan tutte with the Los Angeles Philharmonic and Gustavo Dudamel; her first Contessa in concert performances of Le nozze di Figaro on tour with the Freiburger Barock Orchester and René Jacobs; the title role in concert performances of Theodora on tour with The English Concert and Harry Bicket and a return to Covent Garden as Oscar Un ballo in maschera.
She is particularly regarded internationally for her many Handel roles, having sung Ginevra Ariodante in San Diego and in Moscow; Angelica Orlando in Munich, for Covent Garden and at the Aix-en-Provence Festival; Poppaea Agrippina in Cologne, Brussels and Paris; Cleopatra Giulio Cesare in Paris, Amsterdam and Florida; and the title-role in Semele at the Aix-en-Provence and Innsbruck Festivals, Flanders Opera, Cologne Opera, the BBC Proms and at English National Opera - for which she was nominated for a Laurence Olivier Award. Most recently she has sung Nitocris Belshazzar at the Deutsche Staatsoper, the Théâtre du Capitole in Toulouse and at the Innsbruck and Aix-en-Provence Festivals and the title-role in Partenope at the English National Opera.
In concert she appears regularly with the world’s finest orchestras and conductors and her forthcoming appeances include Bach Cantatas with the Bayerischer Rundfunk and Antonini, Nitocris in a concert tour of Handel's Belshazzar with Les Arts Florissants and Christie and her first Contessa in concert performances of Le nozze di Figaro with the Freiburger Barock Orchester and Jacobs.
Other recent highlights on the concert platform have included Mahler's Symphony no. 4 on tour with the Orchestre des Champs-Elysées and Herreweghe, Elijah at the BBC Proms with the Gabrieli Consort and McCreesh, Ilia in Idomeneo at the Edinburgh Festival with the Scottish Chamber Orchestra and Norrington, Poulenc's Gloria with the Hallé Orchestra and Elder and Messiah with Les Violons du Roy and Labadie.
