SCO announces new Principal Conductor, Robin Ticciati

The Scottish Chamber Orchestra (SCO) today announced the appointment of young British conductor Robin Ticciati as Principal Conductor.

Ticciati made his debut with the Orchestra this summer in a three-concert Highland Tour, performing a programme of Fauré, Strauss and Haydn in Strathpeffer, Portree and Fort William. He struck up an immediate rapport with the Orchestra and, almost immediately after the concerts, negotiations commenced to establish a more formal relationship between Ticciati and the SCO culminating in his appointment as Principal Conductor. He will take up the position from September 2009. Diaries and schedules have been juggled to enable Ticciati to conduct four weeks of concerts during the SCO’s 2009/10 Season. Thereafter, he will join the Orchestra for eight weeks in each season. As Principal Conductor Designate, he will join the Orchestra on a Highland Tour in Summer 2009 which includes plans to visit Strathpeffer, Findhorn and Pitlochry in June.

Roy McEwan, Managing Director of the Scottish Chamber Orchestra, commented today; “Everyone at the SCO is very excited about the new relationship which is about to start with Robin Ticciati. Robin is a fantastically talented musician. We are in no doubt that he has a glittering career ahead of him and we are delighted that the Scottish Chamber Orchestra is going to be an important part of it. Given that he is already in so much demand at an international level, we are very pleased that he will be able to work with us next summer and that he will have an important presence in the 2009/10 Season before taking up his full commitment the following season.“

Robin Ticciati says of his appointment; “I am thrilled to be appointed the Principal Conductor of the Scottish Chamber Orchestra - to be part of an orchestra that has such history and an outstanding reputation for its music making. I hope that every programme we play will be filled with magic and excitement leading to new paths being found by both audiences and the orchestra alike."

Robin Ticciati is one of the most talked-about talents for years. He is currently Music Director of Glyndebourne on Tour (GOT) and Music Director and Artistic Advisor to the Gävle Symphony Orchestra (Sweden).
