This Week at Askonas Holt

Alexander Briger makes his Gothenburg Symphony debut this week, stepping in at short notice for an indisposed Peter Eotvos. The programme opens with Messiaen's Le Tombeau Resplendissant, followed by Eotvos' Violin Concerto (soloist Akiko Suwenai) and Scriabin's Symphony No.3. Following the Goteborg concerts on 3 and 4 September, the complete programme is presented by Musik Fest Berlin 08 in the Philharmonie, Berlin on Saturday 6 September.

Jian Wang plays Shostakovich Cello Concerto No. 1 with Neeme Jarvi and the Sao Paulo Symphony Orchestra.

Lionel Bringuier conducts the Vasteras Chamber Orchestra in a programme to include Russel, Tchaikovsky and Beethoven at the Vasteras Konserthus.

Gustavo Dudamel continues his tour with the Simon Bolivar Youth Orchestra of Venezuela. Programmes include pieces by Mussorgsky, Salonen, Castellanos, Stravinsky, Tchaikovsky and Marquez among others. Concerts take place at the Grosses Festspielhaus, Salzburg, Berliner Philharmonie, Alte Oper Frankfurt.

Piotr Anderszewski gives a recital in Urrugne as part of the Musique en Cote Basque festival.

Elena Manistina, Mikhail Petrenko and Pavel Baransky sing in BBC Prom 68 with the London Philharmonic Orchestra and BBC Singers, conducted by Vladimir Jurowski. The Russian inspired programme will include Rimsky Korsakov's 'Kashchey the Immortal' and Stravinsky's 'Firebird'.

Murray Perahia performs Mozart Piano Concerto No. 24 with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Bernard Haitink. The concert takes place at the Concertgebouw, Amsterdam.

Joshua Ellicott sings Birtwistle's 'The Last Supper' with the London Sinfonietta in Milan and Turin.

Ludovic Morlot makes his debut conducting the Tonhalle Orchestra in a programme including Brahms Symphony No. 4.

Malcolm Martineau accompanies Michael Schade in recital at the Schubertiade in Schwarzenberg.

Kirill Gerstein takes part in the Jerusalem Chamber Music Festival. Concerts take place in the Lodz Philharmonic Concert Hall. Programme includes pieces by Chopin, Busoni, Schumann and Tchaikowsky.

Giovanni Antonini conducts il Giardino Armonico at the Basilica di Santa Maria della Passione in Milan. They are joined by Bernarda Fink and their programme includes works by Caldara, Marini, Monteverdi, Vivaldi, Conti, Pisendel, Weiss and Ferrandini.

Paul Goodwin conducts Handel's Orlando at the Sydney Opera House, for Opera Australia. The producer is Justin Way and cast includes Rachelle Durkin (Angelica), Hye Seoung Kwon (Dorinda), Sonia Prina (Orlando), Tobias Cole (Medoro) and Richard Alexander (Zoroastro).

Myung-Whun Chung tours Asia with the Orchestra Filarmonica della Scala. Concerts take place in Tokyo, Seoul, Shanghai and Beijing. Programmes include pieces by Mendelssohn, Mahler, Rossini, Puccini among others.

Viktoria Mullova plays Beethoven Violin Concerto with the Kammerorchester Basel in Gstaad and Eisenstadt.

Patrizia Ciofi returns to Moscow to sing Giulietta in 'I Capuleti e i Montecchi' with the Moscow State Philharmonic Society. She is joined by fellow Askonas Holt artist, tenor Sergei Romanovsky as Tebaldo, and conducted by Luciano Acocella.

Greg Fedderly sings Gherardo in Puccini's 'Gianni Schicchi' with the Los Angeles Opera, conducted by James Cameron.

Julian Rachlin's summer chamber festival in Dubrovnik begins with an impressive line-up of artists including Janine Jansen, Leif Ove Andsnes, Thomas Hampson, Lawrence Power and Mischa Maisky as well as Krzysztof Penderecki as the composer in residence, a special project of music by Alberto Iglesias and performed by John Malkovich, and Sir Roger Moore reading letters by Mozart interspersed by the composer's chamber music. Julian has been hosting his "and Friends" Festival in Dubrovnik for the past eight years and it is rapidly gaining international recognition as one of the most interesting of the European summer chamber festivals. Daniele Gatti appears with the Royal Philharmonic for the second year running.

Thomas Allen makes his role debut singing the title role in 'Gianni Schicchi' at Los Angeles Opera.

Malin Christensson sings a Schubert Mass in Innsbruck with Moderntimes_1800.

Robin Ticciati conducts the Gävle Symfoni Orkester in a programme to include Faure, Bartok and Stravinsky Violin Concerto with Veronika Eberle. Concerts take place at Gävle Konserthus and at the Folkets Hus, Hudiksvall.

Dorothea Roschmann, Ian Bostridge and Christopher Maltman give a Quartet recital at the Schwarzenberg Schubertiade.

Peter Donohoe performs the Busoni Piano Concerto with the Flemish Radio Symphony Orchestra.

Daniel Harding conducts the LSO on tour in Germany with concerts in Wuppertal, Bonn, Dortmund, Redefin and Berlin.
