Another touring triumph

In the last two weeks of May, Myun-Whun Chung conducted Staatskapelle Dresden in a whirlwind tour of Europe, with soloist Lars Vogt. The tour took in seven concerts in eight days, with performances taking place in some of the most prestigious European cities and concert halls, including the Teatro Lirico in Cagliari, Vienna Musikverein, Palace of the Arts in Budapest, Auditorium de Lyon, Théâtre des Champs-Élysées in Paris, and the Palais des Beaux-Arts in Brussels.

Tour repertoire included Brahms Piano Concerto No. 1 and Mozart Piano Concerto KV 466 performed by Lars Vogt; the Staatskapelle performed Beethovens Fifth Symphony in the second half of the programme, of which one Italian critic wrote:- "Chung and the Staatskapelle Dresden executed an intense performance of the Fifth Symphony in which this great and unique orchestra produced a spontaneity and slickness of sound to create a thrilling atmosphere on the stage of the Lirico". Lars Vogt's in his rendition of Brahms Piano Concerto was described by an Italian critic as having "an exemplary touch, with fluid, clean and elegant musicality, perfect for the dark and dreamy atmosphere of Brahms."

This is only the latest in a series of successful collaborations between Maestro Chung and the Staatskapelle Dresden who enjoy performing together regularly, and have toured widely together, including a hugely successful tour of the Far East in November 2006.

Future touring plans with the Staatskapelle Dresden include a visit to Edinburgh Festival in August 2008 and a tour of the Far East in 2009, both with the orchestra's Music Director, Fabio Luisi.
