Alexander Briger

Alexander Briger is a conductor of remarkable versatility, with a repertoire that ranges from Baroque to contemporary. Born in Australia, he studied in Sydney and Munich and worked closely with Sir Charles Mackerras and Pierre Boulez . He made his debut with Opera Australia in 1998 conducting 'Jenufa' and has since appeared in further productions for the company as well as Royal Opera House, Covent Garden, Glyndebourne Festival, English National Opera, Aix-en-Provence, Royal Swedish Opera, Royal Danish Opera and in January 2008 he made a highly acclaimed debut with Canadian Opera conducting 'From the House of the Dead'. Recent symphonic conducting highlights have included Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio France, Melbourne Symphony and Konzerthausorchester Berlin, as well as his third recording with 'cellist Jamie Walton and the Philharmonia, for which he has received critical acclaim. He has also worked with Sydney Symphony, London Philharmonic, Rotterdam Philharmonic, Orchestre de Paris, Frankfurt Radio, Scottish Chamber, Royal Liverpool Philharmonic, Academy of St. Martin-in-the-Fields, Royal Liverpool Philharmonic, Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie, City of Birmingham Symphony, Salzburg Mozarteum, London Sinfonietta and Salzburg Camerata,. Future plans include his debuts with Komische Oper Berlin and Luxembourg Opera, as well as returns to many of the above orchestras.
