Arild Remmereit

In 2005 Norwegian conductor Arild Remmereit made critically acclaimed debuts with the Pittsburgh Symphony, the Baltimore Symphony, Milan's Filarmonica della Scala, the Vienna Symphony, and the Munich Philharmonic, all of which significantly raised his international profile. (The Wiener Zeitung called Remmereit's interpretation of Beethoven's Symphony No. 3 with the Vienna Symphony the "sensation of the evening. The Vienna Symphony played with unequaled precision...") Since then Mr. Remmereit has successfully returned to the Pittsburgh Symphony and the Vienna Symphony and made highly praised debuts with the Dallas Symphony,  the National Arts Centre Orchestra (Ottawa), the Deutsches Symphonie Orchester Berlin, the Houston Symphony, the Detroit Symphony, the Atlanta Symphony and the Seattle Symphony, among others.. 

Highlights of the 2007-2008 season have included debuts with the Maggio Musicale Florence, the Hallé Orchestra, the Royal Scottish National Orchestra , the Netherlands Philharmonic, Dublin's RTE National Symphony Orchestra, the Milwaukee Symphony and the Stuttgart Philharmonic.  He has return engagements with the Vienna Symphony, Milan's Filarmonica della Scala, the Dallas Symphony, the Baltimore Symphony, the National Arts Centre Orchestra (Ottawa) and the Nashville Symphony.

In the 2008-2009 season Maestro will be performing amost others RTÉ National Symphony Orchestra, BBC Scottish Symphony, Detroit Symphony Orchestra, Utah Symphony Orchestra, Noord Nederlands Orkest, Pacific Symphony, Hallé Orchestra, Hong Kong Philharmonic and New Jeresy Orchestra

September 2005 marked Mr. Remmereit's return to the Filarmonica della Scala as well as a debut at the storied Teatro alla Scala, where Mr. Remmereit conducted Tchaikovsky's opera Cherevicki.

In Europe Mr. Remmereit has led a number of orchestras, including the Oslo Philharmonic, the Bergen Philharmonic, the Royal Stockholm Philharmonic, the Copenhagen Philharmonic, the NDR Radiophilharmonie in Hanover, the Rheinland-Pfalz Philharmonic, the Bern Symphony, the Mozarteum Orchestra in Salzburg and the Gulbenkian Orchestra in Lisbon, among others. In Asia he has conducted the Seoul Philharmonic and has appeared with the Tokyo Philharmonic, the Malaysian Philharmonic and the KBS Symphony, also in Seoul. 

Arild Remmereit conducted the Residenz Orchestra of Vienna from 1989 to 1992 and subsequently served as Artistic Director of the Ukrainian State Opera in Charkow from 1992 to 1995. He has also appeared at the Royal Theatre in Copenhagen and the Norwegian National Opera.

Mr. Remmereit made his US debut with the Madison Symphony in 2003.

Born in Norway, Mr. Remmereit studied piano, voice and composition at the Norwegian Conservatory of Music in Oslo, graduating in 1986. In 1992 he earned a degree from the Universität für Musik und Darstellende Kunst in Vienna under the direction of Prof. Karl Oesterreicher. He has also studied with Leonard Bernstein, and appeared as an assistant for Myung-Whun Chung in Oslo and Paris, and for Mariss Jansons in Vienna.

Arild Remmereit and his wife currently live in Vienna.
