Ida Falk Winland

Swedish soprano Ida Falk Winland studies with Lillian Watson at the Benjamin Britten International Opera School (Royal College of Music).

She is already in demand in the UK and Europe, appearing as soloist in performances that include Mozart's Mass in C Minor conducted by Sir Charles Mackerras and Bach's B Minor Mass conducted by Peter Schreier at St. John's, Smith Square. She will sing Cleopatra with the Gothenburg Opera in September 2008.

Other recent engagements include Euridice in Monteverdi’s opera ‘L’Orfeo’ for the Drottningholm Opera Company in Stockholm; concerts with the Helsinki Philharmonic Orchestra under Okko Kamu performing songs by Strauss and Mahler 4th Symphony; concerts with the Swedish Radio Symphony Orchestra; the role of Anne Truelove in Stravinsky’s Opera ‘The Rakes’s Progress’ for the BBIOS at the Royal College of Music; radio broadcasts for Swedish Classical Radio during 2007 as Artist in Residence, including a performance of Schoenberg's ‘Pierrot Lunaire’; a tour in Asia with Okko Kamu and the Asian Youth Orchestra performing concert arias by Mozart and Mahler's Fourth Symphony at Tokyo Opera City, Shanghai Oriental Art Centre Concert Hall, Taipei National Concert Hall and Hong Kong Cultural Centre Concert Hall; Mozart Operatic Arias with the Lahti Symphony Orchestra at the Sibelius Hall; concerts and a radio broadcast with the Gothenburg Symphony Orchestra and concerts with the English Chamber Orchestra and Finnish Chamber Orchestra.

Future engagements include performances with the Gothenburg Symphony Orchestra; Bach’s Matthew Passion with Daniel Harding and the Swedish Radio Symphony Orchestra; a recital of Strauss songs at the Cadogan Hall; concerts with Helsingborg Symphony Orchestra and the Swedish Radio Choir; the Fox in Janacek’s opera ‘The Cunning Little Vixen for BBIOS, as well as various chamber music recitals and solo recitals for Swedish Classical Radio as Artist in Residence 2007-2009.

Ida was awarded the Song Prize at the 2008 Ferrier awards. During June 2007, Ida was one of the 25 finalists in BBC Singer of the World Competition and in December last year Ida followed in the footsteps of many great artists, including Renee Fleming, as the selected artist performing at the Nobel Prize Ceremony 2007.
