James Rutherford
One of Britain's finest young artists, James Rutherford has appeared as Mozart's Figaro for the Paris Opera, Welsh National Opera, Opera North, and Glyndebourne on Tour. He has sung with the Royal Opera House, English National Opera, the Deutsche Staatsoper , Berlin and at the Montpellier and Innsbruck Festivals and has recently sung Donner Das Rheingold with the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment and Sir Simon Rattle and also for the Royal Opera, and the Lyric Opera of Chicago, Jokanaan in Montpellier, Kothner at the Edinburgh Festival and Leporello for Scottish Opera. He is the winner of the Inaugural Seattle Opera International Wagner Competition held in August 2006.
Recent opera engagements include Wolfram (“Tannhauser”) for San Francisco Opera, Lotario in Handel’s “Flavio” for the Academy of Ancient Music and Lortzing’s “Der Wildschűtz” for the Buxton Festival. Future operatic engagements include Jokanaan (“Salome”) for the Deutsche Staatsoper, Berlin and his first Hans Sachs in a new production of “Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg” for Graz Opera.
