Joshua Ellicott
Lyric tenor Joshua Ellicott was born in Manchester and read music at York University before continuing his vocal studies at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama where he won a full scholarship from the Countess of Munster Musical Trust to study with Adrian Thompson on both the Postgraduate Vocal Studies and Opera courses.
Joshua took four of the top prizes at the 2006 International Vocal Competition in s-Hertogenbosch including the overall first prize. He was also a finalist in this year's Royal Overseas League Singing Competition.
In demand at home and abroad as a concert singer, he has performed at London's Wigmore Hall, Purcell Room, Royal Albert Hall and Barbican Hall and works regularly with this country's leading orchestras and ensembles including The Royal Philharmonic Orchestra; the BBC Concert Orchestra; the Northern Sinfonia; the Manchester Camerata; the Academy of St Martin in the Fields; the Northern Chamber Orchestra; I Fagiolini; Ex Cathedra; Tenebrae and the Binchois Consort.
His opera roles includes Nemorino ('L'Elisir d'amore'), Ferrando ('Cosi fan Tutte'), the title role in Albert Herring, Basilio ('Le Nozze di Figaro'), Pang ('Turandot'), Lysander ('A Midsummer Night's Dream') and Filch ('The Beggar's Opera'). Recent engagements include Pedrillo ('Die Entfuehrung aus dem Serail') for English Touring Opera and Narr ('Wozzeck') for La Monnaie in Brussels.
He has made numerous recordings for the BBC including a live broadcast from the Barbican Centrie of Copland's opera 'The Second Hurricane' under Leonard Slatkin.
