Magdalena Kozena

The Czech Mezzo-Soprano is one of the brightest stars in classical music. She is an exclusive artist with Deutsche Grammophon, and her first solo recital disc of Dvorak, Janacek and Martinu won the Gramophone Solo Vocal Award, 2001. Recent releases include a Mozart album with the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment and Sir Simon Rattle as well as a Handel disc with the Venice Baroque and Andrea Marcon. She was the 2004 Gramophone Awards Artist of the Year.

Magdalena Kožená is well established as a major concert and recital artist and appears worldwide with the leading orchestras and conductors, while her recital partners include Daniel Barenboim, Yefim Bronfman, Mitsuko Uchida and Malcolm Martineau.

She will tour Europe and America to promote the release of her latest recital disc "Songs my mother taught me" and she will also tour the summer 2009 festivals with Mariss Jansons and the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra while in opera she will sing her first Oktavian in Der Rosenkavalier in Berlin and will appear at the Aix-en-Provence festival with a new creation "Heroines", based on compositions by Handel, Haydn and Francesconi.

In 2003 she was awarded the title of Chevalier de l’Ordre des Arts et des Lettres by the French Government.
