Maria Luigia Borsi

Maria Luigia Borsi

The Italian soprano Maria Luigi Borsi is not only appreciated for her fine lyric voice she is also becoming well known for her ability as a stage actress.

She has recently sung Beethoven's Ninth Symphony at the Teatro degli Arcimboldi in Milan, and at the Taormina Festival conducted by Lorin Maazel, and also a Puccini Gala with the Salzburg Camerata. Her career also took her to Salzburg for Desdemona in a new production of 'Otello' conducted by Muti, in which she is said to have given a "touching" performance.

Future engagements are to include 'La Traviata' at the Teatro la Fenice, and she will also be appearing at the Teatro Comunale in Florence for Mimi in 'La Boheme', Fiordiligi in 'Cosi' fan tutte' at the Teatro Massimo, Palermo and Donna Elvira in 'Don Giovanni" with the Israel Philarmonic Orchestra conducted by Zubin Mehta.

Solo concerts are also a discipline in which Maria Luigia shines, as she will demonstrate at Amiens Festival early next year.

Furthermore, in a rare UK appearance she will be singing Respighi's 'Il Tramonto' with the Scottish Chamber Orchestra conducted by Maurizio Benini next February.
