Royal New Zealand Ballet

The superb Royal New Zealand Ballet celebrated its 50th Anniversary in 2003, and entered an exciting new phase in its development by staging a six-week tour of the UK in April/May 2004. The tour, which included performances at London's famous Sadler's Wells Theatre, showcased a dynamic company in commissioned repertoire never before seen in Europe. The artistic centrepiece was a new interpretation of Prokofiev's great classic 'Romeo and Juliet', choreographed by the young English star Christopher Hampson. In addition, a mixed repertoire programme showcased works by Hampson, Mark Baldwin and Javier de Frutos.

For its debut UK tour, Royal New Zealand Ballet received the remarkable feat of receiving two nominations for the Laurence Olivier Awards, London's most prestigious theatre and dance prize.

In 2007, the Royal New Zealand Ballet made its debut in China, with sell-out performances in Shanghai, Suzhou and Beijing. The repertoire for the tour included a further dynamic mixed programme as well as Christopher Hampson's ravishing new production of 'Cinderella'.

"'(Milagros)...is a brilliantly imagined, dazzling response to the score, compelling to watch and admirably danced." The Financial Times
