Scharoun Ensemble
Formed from members of the Berliner Philharmoniker in 1983 and with the classic octet instrumentation as its basis, the Scharoun Ensemble is known for their performances of wide ranging repertoire featuring fascinating and eclectic instrumental combinations as well as the core classic-romantic repertoire. Their concert at the Barbican in April 2003 contrasted Gubaidulina's powerful 'Hommage à T.S.Eliot' against Pergolesi's poignant 'Stabat Mater' which paired the German counter tenor Andreas Scholl with the Swedish soprano Camilla Tilling. The Ensemble recently performed at the Queen Elizabeth Hall, and will return to London in April 2007.
