Susan Gritton

Winner of the 1994 Kathleen Ferrier Memorial Prize, Susan Gritton read botany at Oxford and London Universities.

On the opera stage, her engagements have included Micäela (Carmen), Liù (Turandot), Marenka (The Bartered Bride) and Ismene (Mitridate) at the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden; Susanna (Le nozze di Figaro) and the title role of 'Theodora' at the Glyndebourne Festival and Konstanze (Die Entführung aus dem Serail), Fiordiligi (Così fan tutte), Vitellia (La clemenza di Tito), Rodelinda and Cleopatra (Giulio Cesare) at the Bayerische Staatsoper, Munich. Her many roles at the ENO have included Countess (Le nozze di Figaro); Fiordiligi, Pamina (Die Zauberflöte) and Vixen. She has also sung Donna Anna (Don Giovanni) at Opera de Montreal; Marzelline (Fidelio) in Rome; Tytania (A Midsummer Night's Dream) at La Fenice, Venice and Fiordiligi at the Mostly Mozart Festival in New York.

Engagements this season include Konstanze at the Bayerische Staatsoper; Fiordiligi at the ENO and her operatic debut in Vienna in a new staged production of Handel’s ‘Messiah'. Future plans include her role debut as Ellen Orford (Peter Grimes) for Opera Australia and Blanche (Dialogues des Carmélites) at the Bayerische Staatsoper.

Her recital appearances have included London and New York and, in concert, she appears regularly with many of the world’s great orchestras in venues such as the Vienna Konzerthaus, Salzburg Mozarteum, Amsterdam Concertgebouw, Berlin Philharmonie and at the BBC Proms with conductors such as Rattle, Colin Davis, Mackerras, Norrington, Tate, Andrew Davis and Harding.

Her concert engagements this season include Honegger’s 'Jeanne d'Arc au bûcher' with the Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia and Pappano; Mozart's 'Requiem' with the Rotterdam Philharmonic and Frans Bruggen; Beethoven's Symphony no. 9 with the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra and Ilan Volkov and 'The Creation' in Carnegie Hall with Rilling.

A Grammy nominated artist, she had recorded prolifically.
