John Mark Ainsley
John Mark Ainsley has appeared with the world’s greatest orchestras and conductors, including the London, Chicago, Boston and San Francisco Symphony orchestras and the London, Berlin, Vienna and New York Philharmonic orchestras, with Davis, Haitink, Mackerras, Charles Dutoit, Masur, Norrington, Rattle and Abbado. He has performed on stage with the Glyndebourne Festival, Royal Opera House, Covent Garden, English National Opera, Theater an der Wien, Deutsche Staatsoper Berlin, Teatro all Scala Milan, Oper Frankfurt and Bayerische Staatsoper, with the Salzburg and Aix-en-Provence and Edinburgh festivals, and the BBC Proms. He has recorded extensively for the major labels and was nominated for a Gramophone Award. He won the Royal Philharmonic Society Singer Award, and is a Visiting Professor at the Royal Academy of Music.
In 2016 John Mark was diagnosed with Leukaemia. Fortunately this was an early diagnosis and with ongoing treatment the prognosis for his general health is very good. However, he has decided that it is time to retire from public performance. It is still very much his intention to remain involved with singing and performing through teaching, adjudication and master classes.
Marcelo Raul Álvarez is one of the most important singers of his generation; celebrated for his interpretation of the Verdi, verismo and French repertoire.
His career has taken him to the world’s finest opera houses and international festivals, including the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden; The Metropolitan Opera, Opéra national de Paris, Bayerische Staatsoper Munich, Teatro alla Scala, Wiener Staatsoper, The Lyric Opera of Chcago, Teatro Colón Buenos Aires, Teatro Real Madrid, Gran Teatre del Liceu, Deutsche Oper Berlin, Staatsoper under den Linden, and Opernhaus Zürich.
Italian-American tenor Michele Angelini made his European debut at the Rossini Opera Festival in Pesaro as Count Libenskof in Il viaggio a Reims and sang the part of Hänschen Rilow in the world premiere of Benoit Mernier’s opera Frühlings Erwachen at Theatre Royal de la Monnaie, Brussels, which was also released on the Cypress Records Label.
In the 18/19 season, highlights include a return to Staatsoper Berlin for performances of Il Barbiere di Siviglia; performances of Rossini’s Stabat Mater conducted by Gianandrea Noseda with the National Symphony Orchestra at the Kennedy Center, Washington DC and Carnegie Hall New York and his house debuts at the Bolshoi Theatre Moscow in Il viaggio a Reims, and at Teatro Petruzelli, Bari as Argirio in Tancredi. He will take part in the AIDS Galas in Berlin and Bonn and sing Barbiere in concert in Bremen’s Die Glocke with Jérémie Rhorer. Looking ahead Michele will give his house debuts at the Glyndebourne Festival Opera and Tokyo’s New National Theatre.
Frédéric Antoun was born in Quebec and studied at the prestigious Curtis Institute of Music, Philadelphia.
Frédéric has appeared as Belmonte Die Entführung aus dem Serail, Thespis Platée and Ferrando Cosi fan tutte (Opera de Paris), Tonio La Fille du Régiment (Royal Opera House Covent Garden, Opera de Lausanne and Opera de Toulon), Amaedus Daberlohn Charlotte Salmon and Raul in the world premiere of Adès’ The Exterminating Angel (Salzburg Festival), Nadir Les Pecheurs de perles (Opernhaus Zurich), Laërte Hamlet at the Theater an der Wien, Cendrillon at La Monnaie Brussels and Ferrando Cosi fan tutte (Opera de Marseille and Opera de Paris).
Concert repertoire includes Handel’s Messiah, Schumann Das Paradies und die Peri, Berlioz L’enfance du Christ and Requiem, Beethoven Symphony No.9, Mozart Requiem, Orff’s Carmina burana and Bach’s Magnificat and St Matthew and St John Passion.
Ian Bostridge CBE has made regular appearances at the Salzburg, Edinburgh, Munich, Vienna, Schwarzenberg and Aldeburgh festivals. He has had residencies at the Wiener Konzerthaus, Carnegie Hall New York, Het Concertgebouw Amsterdam, Philharmonie Luxembourg, London’s Barbican Centre and Wigmore Hall. In 2018 Ian began an auspicious Artistic Residency with the Seoul Philharmonic Orchestra, the first of its kind for the ensemble.
In opera, he has performed the roles Lysander (Britten A Midsummer Night’s Dream) for Opera Australia and at the Edinburgh Festival, Jeptha at the Opéra National de Paris, Tamino (Mozart Die Zauberflöte) and Jupiter (Handel Semele) for English National Opera and Peter Quint (Britten The Turn of the Screw), Don Ottavio (Mozart Don Giovanni) and Caliban (Adès The Tempest) for the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden. For the Bayerische Staatsoper he has sung Nerone (Monteverdi L’Incoronazione di Poppea), Tom Rakewell (Stravinsky The Rake’s Progress) and Male Chorus (Britten The Rape of Lucretia), for the Wiener Staatsoper he has sung Don Ottavio and for the Teatro alla Scala Milan he has sung Peter Quint. He has sung Aschenbach (Britten Death in Venice) for English National Opera, La Monnaie, Brussels and in Luxembourg.
Highlights of the 2018/19 season include a European recital tour with jazz pianist Brad Mehldau which will include a new composition by Mehldau, a world premiere of a new commission by James MacMillan with the London Symphony Orchestra for the WW1 centenary, staged performances of the Zender Winterreise, directed by Netia Jones, in Shanghai, recordings of the three major Schubert song cycles live at the Wigmore Hall with pianists Lars Vogt and Thomas Adès, recital tours in Japan, Hong Kong and Korea, as well as a European concert tour with Europa Galante. Further ahead, Ian will return to the operatic stage at the Deutsche Oper and give the world premiere of a new work written for him by Olli Mustonen.
Italian tenor Andrea Carè is one of the most prominent artists in the new generation of operatic tenors. He was among the last students who had the privilege to study with Luciano Pavarotti and is also a protégé of legendary soprano Raina Kabaivanska. He won the Spoleto International Opera Competition in 2005.
He features on the Royal Opera House’s DVD release of Nabucco also featuring Placido Domingo, released on Sony Classical (2015).

Philadelphia-born tenor Stephen Costello quickly established a reputation as a “first-class talent” (Opera News) after coming to national attention in 2007, when, aged 26, he made his Metropolitan Opera debut on the company’s season-opening night. Two years later Costello won the prestigious Richard Tucker Award, and has since appeared at many of the world’s most important opera houses and music festivals, including the Metropolitan Opera; Royal Opera House; Deutsche Oper Berlin; Deutsche Staatsoper Berlin; Paris Opera; Semperoper Dresden; Vienna State Opera; Teatro Real Madrid; Liceu Barcelona; Bayerische Staatsoper Munich and the Salzburg Festival.
The 2018-19 season opens with Stephen’s role debut as Don José Carmen at Dallas Opera, a return to Semperoper Dresden and an appearance at Nationaltheater Mannheim as Rodolfo La Boheme, Alfredo La Traviata at Hamburgische Staatsoper and a new Michael Mayer production at The Metropolitan Opera, his Japanese operatic and role debut as Pinkerton Madame Butterfly for the New National Theatre Tokyo and the Duke Rigoletto for the Bregenzer Festival.
Stephen won the 2009 Richard Tucker Award, First Prize in the 2006 George London Foundation Awards Competition, First Prize and Audience Prize in the Giargiari Bel Canto Competition, and First Prize in the Licia Albanese-Puccini Foundation Competition.
Alexey has worked with conductors such as Placido Domingo, Daniel Harding, Semyon Bychkov, Seiji Ozawa, Kirill Karabits, Gianandrea Noseda, Alexander Shelley, Philippe Auguin, Patrick Summers, Alain Altinoglu, Robin Ticciati, Renato Palumbo, Omer Meir Wellber, Leopold Hager and Dmitri Jurowski.
This season includes returns to the Metropolitan Opera for Otello, Washington National Opera for Eugene Onegin. He will also appear in Candide at the Bolshoi Theatre, Moscow, where he continues to work as a principal soloist. Concert appearances will include Pietro Mascagni’s Silvano with the Scottish Opera.
