A new Marschallin for our times

Many congratulations to Kate Royal on her wonderful success in the role of The Marschallin, which she performs for the first time at this year’s Glyndebourne Festival in their opening production of ‘Der Rosenkavalier’. Rupert Christiansen in The Telegraph describes her as “the most graceful of Marschallins: in silk-smooth voice”.  And in his Review blog, Edward Seckerson says she “truly held her own, vocally (she’s sounding lovely) and dramatically, at the centre of things, asserting her sexuality and projecting an intelligent “knowingness” through her words.”
Performances run at Glyndebourne until 3rd July, with a final performance at the Royal Albert Hall as part of the BBC Proms on 22nd July.
