This weekend, Aida Garifullina and Joyce DiDonato star in the sixth annual Bastille Day Concert at the feet of the Eiffel Tower in the Champ-de-Mars.
This anticipated annual event sees Joyce and Aida joined by some of the world’s finest artists including Patricia Petibon, Philippe Jaroussky, Mathias Goerne, Renaud Capuçon and Katia Buniatishvili. Both singers have participated in the 14 July celebrations before; Aida in 2016, and Joyce in 2015.
Joyce will perform “La ci darem la mano” from Don Giovanni with Matthias Goerne and Handel’s “Lascia Ch’io Pianga”, while Aida performs “Casta Diva” from Bellini’s Norma and La traviata “Brindisi” with Jean-François Borras, before joining together to sing the “Barcarolle” from Les Contes d’Hoffmann, and The Marseillaise with all artists. François-Xavier Roth conducts the Orchestre national de France and the Chœur and the Maîtrise de Radio France in a programme which culminates in a spectacular fireworks display, marking the end of France’s national day of celebration. The concert is free to the public and will be broadcast live on France 2, France Inter, Culturebox and Facebook.
