This weekend, soprano Ailyn Pérez will make her eagerly-awaited role debut as the beguiling courtesan Thaïs at the Metropolitan Opera. John Cox revives his enchanting production featuring extravagant costume design by designer-superstar Christian Lacroix. Emmanuel Villaume will conduct the lush orchestrations of Massenet’s score with opera stars Gerald Finley and Jean-François Borras portraying the other leading roles of Athanaël and Nicias.
Looking ahead, Ailyn will make further appearances as both the Countess in Le nozze di Figaro and Juliette in Roméo et Juliette at the Metropolitan Opera and will appear as a soloist in the annual Richard Tucker Gala Concert, before returning to Europe for Micaëla in Carmen at the Bayerische Staatsoper and Violetta in La traviata at the Hamburgische Staatsoper.
