Ainars Rubikis makes his debut at the Bolshoi Theatre later this week, conducting Mussorgsky’s Boris Godunov. Based upon the play by Aleksander Pushkin, Boris Godunov tells the story of the infamous Russian Tsar and was Mussorgky’s only completed opera. This production stars Mikhail Kazakov in the title role.
This debut makes for a fantastic start to the Latvian conductor’s 2015-16 season, which sees him make return visits to Poznan Philharmonic, Queensland Symphony, St Petersburg Philharmonic, Orchestre Nationale d’Ile de France and Orquesta de Euskadi with the Malandain Ballet Biarritz, as well as his debut with Residentie Orkest. Future plans include debuts at Chicago Lyric Opera and returns to the Bolshoi Theatre and Latvian National Opera.
