George Benjamin’s ‘Written on Skin’ huge success
Warmest congratulations to George Benjamin on the enormous success of his new opera Written on Skin at Festival Aix-en-Provence, with the Mahler Chamber Orchestra conducted by the composer. After a prolonged standing ovation at the premiere on 7th July, it has received a unanimously rapturous reception from the press. A co-commission with some of the leading opera houses of Europe, future performances over the next eighteen months include Netherlands Opera, Theatre du Capitole de Toulouse, Royal Opera House, London, Maggio Musicale Fiorentino, and Opera Comique, Paris. With text by Martin Crimp, it has already been hailed as one of the most significant new operas since Wozzeck and Pelléas et Mélisande. We greatly look forward to future performances.
Other Askonas Holt artists taking part in future performances of Written on Skin include Iestyn Davis, counter-tenor as the Boy, Audun Iversen, baritone as the Protector and Franck Ollu, conductor.
