Alexander Shelley’s debut performance at the Aspen Festival

Alexander Shelley travels to the US this week for his debut performance at the Aspen Festival, which takes place in the Rocky Mountains of Colorado. He performs a programme of Bartók and Schubert with the Aspen Chamber Symphony that includes Bartók’s stunning viola concerto with Lawrence Power. Lawrence will also perform Esa-Pekka Salonen’s Pentatonic Étude for solo viola. The performance takes place on Friday 20 July at the Benedict Music Tent.

He will then travel on to São Paulo to appear in the city’s Winter Festival with the São Paulo Symphony Orchestra, returning having only made his debut with the orchestra in April this year. Here he performs an eclectic programme of Brahms, Strauss and Schnittke’s Moz-art à la Haydn featuring violinists Emmanuele Baldini and Davi Graton.

Recent highlights include a return to the Tivoli Festival Copenhagen with the Copenhagen Philharmonic and his debut with the Helsinki Philharmonic Orchestra.
