Alison Balsom returns to the stage for BBC Concert Orchestra’s Winter Nights

On Wednesday 5 December, Alison Balsom returns to the stage for BBC Concert Orchestra’s Winter Nights at Southbank’s Queen Elizabeth Hall, performing Guy Barker’s The Lanterne of Light. The trumpet concerto received stellar reviews when it was premiered by Alison at the BBC Proms in 2015, with Bachtrack stating, “it was possible to feel completely at ease witnessing Balsom’s playing and the orchestra’s dynamic and virtuosic accompaniment, they were often at war with one another but in a way that was completely assured” (September 2015).

The full programme for the concert is as follows:

Anne Dudley – Northern Lights
Guy Barker – The Lanterne of Light
Dobrinka Tabakova – Orpheus’ Comet
Jonny Greenwood – Norwegian Wood
Sarah Jenkins – And the sun stood still (world premiere)
Dobrinka Tabakova – Tectonic (world premiere)
