All hail the Baroque tenor!

Tour success for Bostridge

Congratulations to Ian Bostridge who has just returned home having completed a mammoth tour of the United States and Canada with Les Violons du Roy and Bernard Labadie. The seven date tour (with concerts in Montreal, Quebec, Costa Mesa, Berkeley, Seattle, Chicago and in New York’s Zankel Hall) successfully promoted Ian’s new ‘Three Tenors’ disc on the EMI label. This gave Ian’s American audience the first chance to hear him in this repertoire which he has made his own. And just as the disc received rave reviews, so the concerts been hailed in each venue. The Three Tenors disc showcases arias of Handel and Vivaldi, in addition to the lesser well known Gasparini and Caldara who originally wrote for the three baroque tenors Annibale Pio Fabri, Francesco Borosini and John Beard.

All of the critics commented on Ian’s wonderful interpretation of these composers. The Chicago tribune hails  “the brilliant British tenor” who “continues to prove his extraordinary ability to absorb the full expressive meaning of a text”. The Seattle Times writes that this is “language that the great English tenor Ian Bostridge understands and communicates perfectly” and the New York Times praises his ability to make  “these showpieces sound easy”.
