Next week, soprano Anita Hartig makes her role debut as Antonia/Stella in Bartlett Sher’s magical production of Les contes d’Hoffmann at the Metropolitan Opera. Johannes Debus will conduct a star-studded cast that features soprano Oksana Volkova – also making a role debut, as Giuletta – tenor Vittorio Grigolo in the title role, soprano Erin Morley as Olympia, and mezzo-soprano Tara Erraught as Nicklausse.
Speaking with us today, Anita said:
“I always feel such great excitement when I perform a role for the first time! I made the decision early in my career to take the time needed and follow the maturity of my voice before tackling a new score. It is of course not only about the voice. I feel so lucky and thankful to be making this role debut in such wonderful surrounds. The stage of the Met has become my second home with its amazing audiences. This production by Bartlett Sher is magical and I’m getting to experience it with my wonderful colleagues Vittorio, Tara, Erin, Laurent and of course my beloved orchestra with my most important partner Maestro Johannes Debus, whom I thank for his care and support. I can only say that this debut of Antonia is a dream come true!”
Following her performances at the Met, Anita will make her highly anticipated house debut at the Teatro Real Madrid as Mimì in La Bohème alongside fellow Askonas Holt stars Stephen Costello and Etienne Dupuis. Other highlights of the season include Marguerite in Faust at the Wiener Staatsoper and Staatsoper Hamburg and further performances of Mimì in Vienna and at Opera di Roma.
Anita will appear in all performances of the Met’s production of Les contes d’Hoffmann: 26, 30 September, 4, 7, 13, 18, 24, 28 October and 1, 4 November. More details can be found here.
