Thomas Adès CBE
Renowned as both a composer and a performer, Thomas Adès works regularly with the world’s leading orchestras, opera companies and festivals.
Thomas appears regularly with, among others, the Los Angeles, New York and London Philharmonic Orchestras, the Boston, London, BBC and City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestras, and last season making his debut conducting the Czech Philharmonic. In opera, he recently conducted his latest opera The Exterminating Angel at the Metropolitan Opera, the Royal Opera House and at the Salzburg Festival. The piece was awarded World Premiere of the Year at the 2017 Opera Awards.
This season Thomas will give solo recitals in London, Paris, Lisbon and the Czech Republic, and will partner with Kirill Gerstein in recital at Carnegie Hall and Tanglewood. His other engagements this season include conducting the London and Los Angeles Philharmonic orchestras, the Finnish Radio and Boston Symphony orchestras, as well as the Orchestre de Paris, the Leipzig Gewandhausorchester and Britten Sinfonia.
Piotr Anderszewski is regarded as one of the outstanding musicians of his generation.
In recent seasons, he has given recitals at London’s Barbican Centre and Royal Festival Hall, the Wiener Konzerthaus, the Berlin Philharmonie, Carnegie Hall New York and the Mariinsky Concert Hall in St Petersburg.
His collaborations with orchestra have included appearances with the Berliner Philharmoniker, the Chicago and London Symphony orchestras, the Philadelphia Orchestra and the Koninklijk Concertgebouworkest. He has also given many performances directing from the keyboard, with orchestras such as the Scottish Chamber Orchestra, Chamber Orchestra of Europe, Sinfonia Varsovia and Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie Bremen.
Piotr has been an exclusive artist with Warner Classics/Erato (previously Virgin Classics) since 2000. His first recording for the label was Beethoven’s Diabelli Variations, which went on to receive a number of prizes including an ECHO Klassik award. He has also recorded a Grammy-nominated CD of Bach’s Partitas 1, 3 and 6 and a critically-acclaimed disc of works by Chopin. Piotr’s most recent disc of Bach’s English Suites nos. 1, 3 and 5 was released in November 2014, going on to win both a Gramophone award and an ECHO Klassik award in 2015.

Saleem Ashkar made his Carnegie Hall debut at the age of 22 and has since gone on to work with the Wiener Philharmoniker, Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra, London Symphony Orchestra, Mariinsky Orchestra, Leipzig Gewandhausorchester and Deutsches Symphonie-Orchester Berlin; with conductors such as Zubin Mehta, Daniel Barenboim, Riccardo Muti, Nikolaj Znaider, Fabio Luisi, Lawrence Foster, Jakub Hrůša, and Riccardo Chailly — with whom he has recorded and appeared at the Proms and Lucerne Festivals.
In recent years Saleem has made debuts and return visits to many great orchestras, including the Detroit Symphony Orchestra, Orchestre National de Lyon, Orchestre Philharmonique du Luxembourg with Znaider, Bamberg Symphoniker with Christoph Eschenbach, Japan Philharmonic Orchestra with Pietari Inkinen, National Arts Center Ottawa with Alexander Shelley, Orquestra Simfònica de Barcelona i Nacional de Catalunya with Kazushi Ono, and a three-week tour to Australia which saw performances with the Melbourne, Adelaide and Tasmanian Symphony Orchestras, during which his Brahms Piano Concerto No. 1 was praised for its “insight and vigour respectively” (The Sydney Morning Herald).
In the 2018-19 season, Saleem makes his Orchestre de la Suisse Romande debut with David Afkham, and has return invitations to the Konzerthausorchester Berlin with Jan Willem de Vriend, Tokyo Metropolitan Symphony Orchestra with Eliahu Inbal, and Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra with James Feddeck.
Saleem is Ambassador to the Music Fund, a humanitarian project that supports musicians and music schools in conflict areas and developing countries.
Born in Lvov, Poland, Emanuel Ax moved to Winnipeg, Canada, with his family when he was a young boy. His studies at the Juilliard School were supported by the sponsorship of the Epstein Scholarship Program of the Boys Clubs of America, and he subsequently won the Young Concert Artists Award. Emanuel captured public attention in 1974 when he won the first Arthur Rubinstein International Piano Competition in Tel Aviv and in 1979 he won the coveted Avery Fisher Prize in New York.
In partnership with colleagues Leonidas Kavakos and Yo-Yo Ma, he begins the current season with concerts in Vienna, Paris and London with the trios of Brahms recently released by SONY Classical. In the US he returns to the orchestras in Cleveland, Chicago, New York, Philadelphia, San Francisco, Los Angeles, Minneapolis, Washington, Detroit, Pittsburgh, Nashville and Portland, OR, and to Carnegie Hall for a recital to conclude the season. In Europe he returns to the Rotterdam Philharmonic, Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra in Amsterdam, Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia in Rome, Deutsches Symphonie-Orchester Berlin, and the radio orchestras of Hamburg, Hannover and Munich, as well as touring with the Budapest Festival Orchestra to Belgium, France and Italy. Emanuel will also appear in recital throughout Europe, culminating in a special concert with Sir Simon Keenlyside and the Dover Quartet at Wigmore Hall in June 2019.

Piano & Conductors
Daniel Barenboim was born in Buenos Aires in 1942, and studied piano under his parents. At age 11, he took part in conducting classes in Salzburg, under Igor Markevich
In 1954, Daniel began his recording career as a pianist. In the 1960s, he recorded Beethoven’s Piano Concertos with Otto Klemperer, Brahm’s Piano Concertos with Sir John Barbirolli, and the Mozart piano concertos with the English Chamber Orchestra, this time serving both as pianist and conductor.
Ever since his conducting debut in 1967 in London with the Philharmonia Orchestra, Daniel has been in great demand with leading orchestras around the world. Between 1975 and 1989, he was principal conductor of the Orchestre de Paris, and he held the position of Music Director of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra between 1991 and 2006. Since 1992, Barenboim has been General Music Director of the Staatsoper Unter den Linden, where he was also artistic director from 1992 to August 2002. In 2000, the Staatskapelle Berlin appointed him Principal Conductor for Life, and in March 2003, he and the Staatskapelle were honoured with the Wilhelm-Furtwängler-Preis.
Beside his great classic-romantic repertoire, Daniel continues to focus on contemporary music.
The 2017-18 season saw American-Israeli pianist Inon Barnatan debut with the London Philharmonic (under Andrés Orozco-Estrada), Helsinki Philharmonic (Alexander Shelley), Aalborg Symfoniorkester (Rafael Payare), Trondheim Symfoniorkester (Guy Braunstein), Philharmonie Zuidnederland (Hans Graf) and National Symphony Orchestra Washington (Gianandrea Noseda), and return to Cincinnati Symphony, Seattle Symphony, Los Angeles Philharmonic at the Hollywood Bowl, and the BBC Proms with Minnesota Orchestra.
Highlights of the 2018-19 season include debuts with the NDR Elbphilharmonie Orchester, Tonhalle-Orchester Zürich, a US tour with the Australian Chamber Orchestra, and returns to the Pittsburgh and Houston Symphony. In recital, Inon will make his International Piano Series debut at the Southbank Centre London, and return to Carnegie Hall and Lincoln Center; he also continues his longstanding collaboration with cellist Alisa Weilerstein as part of the “Transfigured Nights” project alongside violinist Sergey Khachatryan and percussionist Colin Currie. This season also sees Inon begin his tenure as Music Director of La Jolla Music Society’s SummerFest.
Born in Tel Aviv in 1979, Inon went on to study at London’s Royal Academy of Music. He is a recipient of both the Avery Fisher Career Grant and Lincoln Center’s Martin E. Segal Award, and currently resides in New York.

Piano, Harpsichord & Fortepiano
Kristian Bezuidenhout is one of today’s most notable and exciting keyboard artists, equally at home on the fortepiano, harpsichord, and modern piano. Born in South Africa in 1979, he began his studies in Australia, completed them at the Eastman School of Music, and now lives in London.
Kristian is a regular guest with the world’s leading ensembles including the Freiburger Barockorchester, Les Arts Florissants, Orchestre des Champs Elysées, Chicago Symphony Orchestra and the Leipzig Gewandhausorchester; and has guest-directed (from the keyboard) the English Concert, Orchestra of the Eighteenth Century, Collegium Vocale, and Dunedin Consort .
He has performed with celebrated artists including John Eliot Gardiner, Philippe Herreweghe, Frans Brüggen, Trevor Pinnock, Giovanni Antonini, Isabelle Faust, Alina Ibragimova, Rachel Podger, Carolyn Sampson, Anne Sofie von Otter and Mark Padmore.
In the 2018/19 season, Kristian play-directs programmes with Scottish Chamber Orchestra, Irish Baroque Orchestra, as well as Freiburger Barockorchester and English Concert. As a soloist he performs with Cleveland Orchestra, Swedish Chamber Orchestra/Dausgaard, London Symphony Orchestra, Deutsches-Sinfonie Orchester Berlin and Orchestre de Paris. Solo recitals and chamber music take him to Paris, Amsterdam, Madrid, Vienna, New York, Washington DC, Montreal, Vancouver, Zurich and Oxford.
Regarded as one of the finest interpreters of Classical and Romantic repertoire, Imogen Cooper is internationally renowned for her virtuosity and lyricism. Recent and future concerto performances include the Berliner Philharmoniker and Sir Simon Rattle, Sydney Symphony with Simone Young and the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra with Thomas Dausgaard.
Imogen has a widespread international career and has appeared with the New York Philharmonic, Vienna Philharmonic, Royal Concertgebouw, Leipzig Gewandhaus, Budapest Festival, NHK and London Symphony Orchestras. Her recital appearances have included Tokyo, New York, Singapore, Paris, Vienna, Prague and the Schubertiade in Schwarzenberg.
Imogen is a committed chamber musician and performs regularly with Henning Kraggerud and Adrian Brendel. As a Lieder recitalist, she has had a long collaboration with Wolfgang Holzmair in both the concert hall and recording studio. Her recent solo recordings for Chandos Records feature music by Brahms, Chopin, Liszt, Wagner and Robert and Clara Schumann.
Imogen received a CBE in the Queen’s New Year Honours in 2007 and was the recipient of an award from the Royal Philharmonic Society the following year. In 1997 she was awarded Honorary Membership of the Royal Academy of Music and in 1999 she was made a Doctor of Music at Exeter University. Imogen was the Humanitas Visiting Professor in Classical Music and Music Education at the University of Oxford for 2012-13. The Imogen Cooper Music Trust was founded in 2015, to support young pianists at the cusp of their careers, and give them time in an environment of peace and beauty.
