(Translated) “Particularly eagerly-awaited in his home town, Andrea Carè tackled the role of Don José with confidence, offering a convincing interpretation, outlining a figure whose reassuring ethical and moral values are put fatally to the test by an encounter with authentic and overwhelming passion. A path leading down into the abyss of human emotions, which allowed the tenor to reveal his technical solidity and attention to the emotional rendering of the character. Carè was particularly sensitive in the nuances of his singing and in the rendering of the melancholic accents of the young corporal… In addition, the tenor demonstrated an always-fluid projection, smooth… and suitably fiery in the dramatic final confrontation with the protagonist.”

(Translated) “As soon as the curtain goes up, we observe the main couple: Don Carlo and Elisabetta. The former, played by Andrea Care who shows a beautiful golden resonance, with the high notes standing out thanks to the vibrato the Italian tenor used, measured perfectly.”

Andrea Carè was an elegant Radamès. His experience and natural stage presence made him the most successful actor of the evening. During the Triumphal Scene, Radamès relives the horrors of the war, with terrifying scenes shown in a very successful coup de théâtre; Carè managed to represent a credible soldier suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder with great emotion.”

“Mario Cavaradossi, Tosca’s beloved, was Andrea Carè, whose generous tenor was perfectly suited to the passionate young lover. His emission was natural and unaffected, but, at the same time, always elegant, never indulging in the excesses of verismo. He had a very natural demeanour on stage and showed great chemistry with Stundytė. His “E lucean le stelle” was arguably the highlight of the evening: he sang with great emotion, pouring his heart out, and the audience responded by stopping the show with well-deserved applause.”

“Andrea Carè, as Loris, was in wonderful form at the première. The role is perfect for his voice, and he gave us a memorable interpretation. His “Amor ti vieta” (the opera’s best known tune) rightly stopped the show. His technique is impeccable, solving all the problems of the part with nonchalant ease. His tenor is powerful… it blooms in high notes which are extremely easy, natural and beautiful. In general, here was a natural, Italian, spontaneous voice, which perfectly suited the young, reckless lover.”

Yvan Beuvard, Forum Opera, 26 July 2016
