Askonas Holt welcomes Chinese conductor Long Yu for general management

We are delighted to announce our worldwide representation of the pre-eminent Chinese conductor and global musical ambassador Long Yu, with immediate effect. Long is Artistic Director and Chief Conductor of the China Philharmonic, Music Director of the Shanghai Symphony Orchestra and of the Guangzhou Symphony Orchestra, and Principal Guest Conductor of the Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra. He is also the founding Artistic Director of the Beijing Music Festival, which will celebrate its twentieth edition in 2017.

Long enjoys a busy schedule as a guest conductor, working regularly with many of the world’s leading orchestras including the New York Philharmonic, Montreal Symphony Orchestra, The Philharmonia, Orchestre de Paris, Munich Philharmonic and NDR Symphony Orchestra.

In China, Long has worked tirelessly to develop a rich orchestral landscape, through the foundation of major music festivals and the spectacular leadership of China’s leading symphony orchestras. To achieve his goals, Long partners with major musical personalities including Lang Lang, Myung Whun Chung, Charles Dutoit and Yo-Yo Ma. Long has created China’s first orchestral academy in Shanghai – a partnership between the Shanghai Symphony, the Shanghai Conservatory and the New York Philharmonic – and this month he will launch Youth Music Culture Guangdong, a partnership with Yo-Yo Ma and the Silk Road Ensemble, which will investigate the role of the musician as a cultural citizen.

Long has led major international tours with his orchestras, including the first performance by a Chinese orchestra at the BBC Proms, and a performance for Pope Benedict XIV at the Vatican. More recently, he has led groundbreaking tours to cities including New York, San Francisco, Havana, Buenos Aires and Tehran. Long has recorded for Deutsche Grammophon.

Long Yu said: “I am honoured to be joining the world-class roster at Askonas Holt, a company that I have known and admired for many years. I am confident that this partnership will result in major successes; developing my work on the international stage, and accelerating my vision for the music and education in China in the years to come.”

Donagh Collins, Chief Executive at Askonas Holt, commented: “My first partnership with Long Yu was in 2004, when Askonas Holt arranged a European tour for the China Philharmonic. Since then, Long and I have developed a close relationship, and I am thrilled that he is joining our family.”

Long Yu will be managed at Askonas Holt by Mark Hildrew and Jo Fry.
