We are thrilled to welcome conductor Marta Gardolińska to our roster for general management.
Born in Warsaw in 1988, Marta is the Leverhulme Young Conductor in Association at the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra, a post already extended to the 2019/20 season. Having made her BSO subscription debut stepping in at the last minute in October 2018, Marta will lead the orchestra in a variety of concerts and educational activities over the coming seasons, including concerts in the orchestra’s 2019/20 main season in Poole, Exeter and Portsmouth.
Inspired by the experience of singing in her school choir and fascinated by the colours of symphonic music, Marta studied conducting at the Fryderyk Chopin University of Music, and the University of Music and Performing Arts in Vienna. In 2015 she was named Principal Conductor of the Akademischer Orchesterverein Wien, and during the 2017/18 season she held the position of Chief Conductor and Artistic Director of TU-Orchester Wien. She was also selected to be the Associate Fellow of Marin Alsop’s Taki Concordia Conducting Fellowship for the 2017-2019 seasons.
Alongside her work as a symphonic conductor, Marta is active in the field of opera. Since 2017 she has regularly worked as assistant conductor to Maestro Tadeusz Kozłowski, rediscovering forgotten operatic masterpieces of Polish composers such as Legenda Bałtyku by Felix Nowowiejski and Manru by Ignacy Jan Paderewski. Between 2013 and 2015 she served as second conductor with Johann-Strauss-Operette Wien.
