Asmik Grigorian makes role debut as Chrysothemis in Strauss’ Elektra

This weekend, Lithuanian soprano Asmik Grigorian makes her role debut as Chrysothemis in a performance of Strauss’ Elektra with the Radio Filharmonisch Orkest at the Royal Concertgebouw in Amsterdam. Conducted by Markus Stenz, the production features over 110 musicians and will be broadcast live on NTR Radio 4.

This continues a very busy period for Asmik, who continues with Strauss’ repertoire later this summer as Salome at the Salzburg Festival directed by Romeo Castellucci. She recently made her debut at the Gran Teatre del Liceu in Barcelona in the role of Tamara in Rubenstein’s The Demon conducted by Mikhail Tatarnikov. Later this year, she will debut as Iolanta at Oper Frankfurt.

Joining the Elektra cast in the role of 5th Maid is soprano Kirsten MacKinnon. Kirsten has enjoyed a fantastic season, with highlights including her Oper Frankfurt debut as Ines in l’Africaine, Micaëla in Carmen for Opera Philadelphia, and Fiordiligi in Cosi fan tutte for the Glyndebourne Tour. Following on from Amsterdam, Kirsten will travel back to her native Canada for three concerts of Beethoven Symphony No. 9 with the Toronto Symphony Orchestra.

The performance of Elektra takes place on Saturday 2 June. More information here.
