The 2017 BBC Proms season was announced today, and we are thrilled to announce the involvement of numerous Askonas Holt artists. This year’s festival runs from 14 July to 9 September 2017.
Highlights of the season include the Proms debuts of several artists, including:
- Inon Barnatan, who performs Ravel’s Piano Concerto in G major with the BBC Symphony Orchestra & Kasuzhi Ono (14 August)
- Karina Canellakis, who conducts Mazzoli, Bartók & Dvořák in what is also her BBC Symphony Orchestra debut (5 September)
- Alexander Gavrylyuk, who performs Rachmaninov’s Piano Concerto No. 3 with the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra & Thomas Dausgaard (13 August)
- Christiane Karg, who gives a recital of Wolf, Duparc, Guridi, Ravel, Hahn & Poulenc with Malcolm Martineau, as part of the Proms at… Cadogan Hall series (21 August)
Our Tours & Projects department will return to the Proms once again, this year bringing five outstanding ensembles to the festival:
- il pomo d’oro make their Proms debut with conductor Maxim Emelyanychev and cellist Edgar Moreau, performing Platti, Vivaldi, Hasse & Boccherini (7 August)
- Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra conducted by Louis Langrée make their Proms debut with Bernstein, Copland & Tchaikovsky (27 August)
- Pygmalion make their BBC Proms debut performing Monteverdi’s Vespers with Raphaël Pichon (31 July) as part of the Proms celebration of the 450th anniversary of the birth of Monteverdi
- Vienna Philharmonic with Daniel Harding, perform Mahler Symphony No. 6 (7 September), Brahms & Mozart with Emanuel Ax, and Beethoven Symphony No. 7 with Michael Tilson Thomas (8 September)
- Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra with Daniele Gatti perform Rihm & Bruckner (1 September), and Haydn & Mahler (2 September)
Further delights include Schoenberg’s rarely performed cantata Gurre-Lieder on the 19 August, conducted by Sir Simon Rattle and featuring Simon O’Neill. Sir András Schiff will perform Book 1 of Bach’s The Well-Tempered Clavier on the 7 September, to be continued at the Proms next year when he will complete the cycle with Book 2. On 19 July, Alisa Weilerstein will give the UK premiere of Dusapin’s Cello Concerto Outscape, written exclusively for her, and conducted by her brother Joshua Weilerstein. Edward Gardner will conduct the First Night of the Proms, and Lucy Crowe and Christine Rice will help end the festivities at the Last Night of the Proms with a performance of Kodály’s Te Deum with the BBC Symphony Orchestra.
