Counter tenor hits the high notes at The Met!

Triumphant debut for Iestyn Davies

Many congratulations to Iestyn Davies who is making a splash in his debut at The Metropolitan Opera in their production of Handel’s Rodelinda

The New York Times says that “the outstanding newcomer Iestyn Davies” is in danger of upstaging the rest of the cast whilst Classical Review says that he is “A winning actor, Davies has a substantial and agreeably pungent voice, and he is a beautiful musician, too, negotiating the never-ending runs in Sono i colpi della sorte and the tricky intervals in Fra tempeste funeste with both precision and a delectable lilt.”

The performances are expertly conducted by Harry Bicket: Classical Review commented that “The Metropolitan Opera Orchestra played splendidly under Harry Bicket’s alert leadership”.

There are further performances on 19th, 23rd, 26th, 30th November and 3rd, 7th, 10th December 2011.

Following his huge success in this role, Iestyn will be making his Washington recital debut on 4th December 2011 and his New York recital debut at the Weill Hall on 15th December, accompanied by Kevin Murphy. Later this season Iestyn will also make his debut at the Chicago Lyric Opera as Eustazio in their production of Handel’s Rinaldo. Bravo Iestyn and here is to many more successes to come!
