Cristian Măcelaru and Andrei Ioniță on tour with the National Symphony Orchestra of Romania



Cristian Măcelaru brings the National Symphony Orchestra of Romania on their first ever US tour, in performances of Enescu’s Romanian Rhapsody No. 1, Strauss’s Suite from Der Rosenkavalier, Dvořák’s Cello Concerto in B minor with Romanian cellist Andrei Ioniță and Ravel’s celebrated Bolero. Performances take place on 6, 7 and 8 January.

Andrei and Cristian (Romanian countrymates) are frequent collaborators. Previous and upcoming projects together include performances of Elgar’s Cello Concerto with the Hallé and National Orchestra of Belgium.

Andrei’s recent and forthcoming highlights in the USA include his debut with the San Diego Symphony, a recital tour culminating in his Zankel Hall debut, and returns to the Grand Rapids Symphony (under Marcelo Lehninger), and Rochester Philharmonic (Ward Stare).

After the tour, Cristian heads to Europe. He performs for the first time this season with WDR Rundfunk Sinfonieorchester in Cologne and continues his fruitful collaboration with City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra and Augustin Hadelich.
