Cristian Măcelaru makes welcome return to the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra

Cristian Măcelaru will make his welcome return to the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra next week as he conducts four concerts and gives an in-conversation interview with CBSO Chief Executive Stephen Maddock.
The first concert, with Akiko Suwanai as soloist, sees Cristian conduct Mendelssohn’s Violin Concerto and Shostakovich’s Eighth on 26 November at Symphony Hall.
Cristian’s first collaboration with the CBSO Youth Orchestra on 30 October gives a chance to hear a rare complete performance of Bartók’s fiery fairytale ballet, The Wooden Prince, as well as American favourites by Gershwin and Copland.
To complete his two-week spell with the orchestra, Cristian will conduct concerts on 3 and 4 November with friend Simon Trpčeski as the soloist in Bartók’s Piano Concerto No. 3.
Events are as follows:
4 November, 7.30pm: The CBSO in Stoke-on-Trent
