Der Rosenkavalier at the Met: 100 not out!

Askonas Trio play their part in centenary celebrations

The year 1913 saw the US premiere of Der Rosenkavalier at the Metropolitan Opera, New York conducted by Ifred Hertz.  There have been many performances over the years since then in a dazzling roll-call of opera’s greatest singers and conductors and this season sees the Met celebrating 100 years of this towering masterpiece.

Three Askonas Holt artists make their mark in this centenary year which opens this coming Friday.  Jane Henschel returns to the Met, this time as Annina, and Peter Rose once again brings his definitive Ochs to the Met stage:  a role he has sung at the great houses of the world including Covent Garden, Munich, Vienna, Milan, Berlin, Dresden and Hamburg.  And following in the footsteps of Böhm, Kleiber and Levine is Edward Gardner  who continues his burgeoning relationship with the Met.
