This week, Mexican tenor Diego Silva will make his UK debut with Opera North, performing the role of Rinuccio in Gianni Schicchi for the first time. The opera is presented as a double bill with Stravinsky’s The Rite of Spring, performed by the Phoenix Dance Theatre. Christopher Alden’s satirical production is revived for the first time since its premiere in 2015, with a cast that includes Richard Burkhard in the title role and Tereza Gevorgyan as Lauretta.
Diego is enjoying a great season, beginning with his role debut as Roméo Roméo et Juliette for Luzerner Theater and a last-minute jump in as Alfredo La traviata for Hannover Staatsoper last month. Further ahead, Diego will return to Luzerner Theater as Alfredo and make his Monte-Carlo Opera debut as Arturo Lucia di Lammermoor.
Gianni Schicchi opens at Opera North on 16 February, with further performances in Leeds, Salford, Newcastle and Nottingham through to 22 March. Find out more here.
