This Sunday 6 May, tenor Dmytro Popov stars as King Gustavo III in Verdi’s melodrama Un ballo in maschera. Recounting the assassination of the Swedish king at a masked ball in 1792, Verdi’s sophisticated work is directed by the internationally renowned Götz Freidrich under the baton of Donald Runnicles. The Deutsche Oper’s stellar cast also features fellow AH-artist Heidi Stober star as Gustavo’s page Oscar, Anja Harteros as Amelia and Luca Salsi as Count René.
Further highlights of Dmytro’s 2017/18 season include Rodolfo (La bohème) at the Metropolitan Opera, Semperoper Dresden and Grand Théâtre de Genève, plus The Prince (Rusalka) at Wiener Staatsoper, Don Jose (Carmen) at Opernhaus Zürich and the Bolshoi Theatre, and his BBC Proms debut in Verdi’s Requiem with the London Philharmonic Orchestra this summer.
Since her critically acclaimed debut at Deutsche Oper Berlin in the autumn of 2008, Heidi has cultivated a long-standing relationship with the house, appearing in a variety of leading roles; most recently Donna Elvira in Don Giovanni. This season, she has also performed Adina in L’elisir d’amore for Semperoper Dresden.
