Congratulations to Alisa Weilerstein who has won ‘Concerto of the Year’ and the highly coveted ‘Recording of the Year’ today for her debut disc at the BBC Music Magazine Awards. Upon receiving these awards, Alisa commented: “I would like to thank the BBC for this great honour. I really couldn’t be more thrilled!!! Most importantly, however, I want to thank the incredible musicians without whom this project could not have been possible. Thank you Maestro Daniel Barenboim for being an invaluable musical mentor and inspiration in my life. Thank you to the wonderful Staatskapelle Berlin for playing so beautifully. My most humble thanks also to Paul Moseley and everyone at Decca for nurturing this project, and to our wonderful producers Andrew Keener and Friedemann Engelbrecht for always ensuring that we were at our best. Thank you to every listener who has enjoyed the album! “
Alisa’s debut disc for Decca Classics of the Elgar & Carter Cello Concertos with Staatskapelle Berlin and Daniel Barenboim received unparalleled praise when it was released in early 2013. Her new disc featuring the Dvorak Cello Concerto with the Czech Philharmonic and Jiri Belohlavek has already received glittering reviews in the US. It was released in Europe yesterday (7th April) and will be released in the UK later this month.
Alisa is currently in Salzburg with the Mozarteum Orchestra and will be with the Israel Philharmonic next month, as well as upcoming concerts with the Chicago Symphony and New York Philharmonic. Over the summer Alisa will tour with the New Zealand Symphony and Czech Philharmonic and will give solo recitals in Sydney & Melbourne.
