We look forward to cheering on the youngest ever ‘Last Night’ conductor
This Saturday will see star conductor Edward Gardner make his debut as the youngest ever conductor of the Last Night of the Proms and we can’t wait to cheer him on! This is Edward’s second Prom of the season having led the BBC Symphony Orchestra in a critically acclaimed programme of Brahms and Mahler earlier in the summer.
For the grand finale of the Proms 2011 season, Edward will conduct a varied programme of the more traditional combined with spectacular pomp and ceremony, leading a jubilant Royal Albert Hall in a finale of singing and flag waving. The evening will begin with a new Maxwell Davies commission and move through the eras from Liszt to Britten rounding off with a rousing rendition of the National Anthem. You can enjoy the evening’s entertainment live on BBC 1 and BBC 2 or tune into BBC Radio 3 for full coverage. You can also catch Edward on the BBC 1 Breakfast sofa on Friday morning and in conversation with Penny Smith on BBC Radio 2 later that morning as he looks forward to the main event.
