Edward Gardner opens the Bergen Philharmonic’s 2016/17 season this week in his new role as Chief Conductor. He will conduct a programme full of musical fireworks from Stravinsky and Knussen followed by Mahler’s first symphony.
Edward’s 16/17 season is a busy one with 5 debuts, return visits to the CBSO, Philharmonia, BBC Symphony Orchestra, Filarmonica della Scala, Netherlands Radio Philharmonic and Deutsches Symphonie Orchester Berlin, not to mention a number of exciting weeks with the Bergen Philharmonic. He will also return to English National Opera to conduct a new production of Tristan and Isolde designed by Anish Kapoor and directed by Daniel Kramer.
The coming season will also see him working with a host of Askonas artists; Lars Vogt, Viktoria Mullova, Carolin Widmann, Valeriy Sokolov, Anna Larsson, Anna Caterina Antonacci, Dorothea Röschmann, Sir Thomas Allen, Robert Murray, Brindley Sherratt, Jane Henschel, Christiane Karg and Matthew Rose.
