Edward Gardner opens his first season in charge of the Bergen Philharmonic Orchestra



Edward Gardner will officially assume his position as Chief Conductor of the Bergen Philharmonic Orchestra on 22 October 2015 in a concert of musical fireworks from Stravinsky and Oliver Knussen. His first season in charge will see him lead the orchestra in their 250th Anniversary Gala Concert; introduce audiences to a programme of premieres by composers hailing from Bergen and conduct Schoenberg’s mighty Gurrelieder cantata where the Bergen Philharmonic will be joined by musicians from the Gothenburg Symphony as well as five vocal soloists, a narrator and a large chorus. He also has a number of recordings for Chandos Records and exciting touring projects in the pipeline. 
The 2015/16 season sees Edward making his debuts with Frankfurt Radio, Orchestre National de France, Leipzig Gewandhaus and Orchestre National de Lyon as well as Lyric Opera of Chicago where he will conduct 8 performances of Der Rosenkavalier. He will also return to the English National Opera to conduct a new production of Wagner’s Tristan and Isolde designed by Anish Kapoor and directed by Daniel Kramer.
