We are delighted to announce that Edward Gardner has renewed his contract with the Bergen Philharmonic Orchestra for a further three years until July 2021. Edward assumed his position as Chief Conductor in October 2015 leading their 250th anniversary gala concert. Highlights of their first season together include a symphonic marathon, Schoenberg’s masterpiece Gurrelieder, which was recorded live for Chandos Records and broadcast on their Digital Concert Hall, and a recording of Janáček’s Glagolitic Mass, which has recently received a Grammy nomination for best choral performance. European touring this season sees the orchestra performing with Edward in Berlin, Munich, London and Amsterdam.
“I have been thrilled with the Bergen Philharmonic Orchestra from the very first time I worked with them.” says Edward. “They have such a unique quality of sound and a passion and a hunger for new experiences and ways of making music. I am eager to further explore the symphonic repertoire with this great orchestra. I feel our relationship grows every time we make music together, and I look forward to developing that special rapport in the future.”
