Latvian mezzo-soprano Elīna Garanča is to be joined by conductor Karel Mark Chichon for a tour of Germany with the NDR Radiophilharmonie to celebrate the release of Elīna’s new album, Sol y Vida.
This new album is Elīna’s first recording to consist of entirely non-core classical repertoire and will feature a variety of musical genres, ranging from well-known Italian love songs to Spanish and Latin American favourites. This very personal selection of music from Elīna is described as a celebration of love and long hot summers. Karel conducted the Orquesta Filarmónica de Gran Canaria for the recording, the orchestra which he leads as both Chief Conductor and Artistic Director.
“This new album is my musical tribute to the people who live under southern skies, and to the beauty and diversity of their ways of life” says Elīna.
Elīna and Karel will give five concerts across Germany, performing pieces from the new album alongside works by Verdi, Puccini, and Cilea, as well as Zarzuela and other Spanish music. The tour will begin in Bremen at Die Glocke on 17 May before travelling to Hamburg (19 May), Munich (21 May), Düsseldorf (24 May) and Essen (26 May).
Elīna and Karel will reunite next month for two further concerts promoting this album in Vienna and Graz with the Wiener Kammerorchester.
Sol y Vida is available now from Deutsche Grammophon.
