This Sunday sees the premiere of Bayerische Staatsoper’s new production of Donizetti’s La Favorite, directed by Amélie Niermeyer. Karel Mark Chichon conducts and mezzo Elīna Garanča stars in the headline role of Léonor de Guzman.
The production marks Elīna’s staged role debut as Léonor, the mistress of Alphonse XI, King of Castile. She is joined on stage by Mariusz Kwiecien in the role of King Alphonse, and Matthew Polenzani as Léonor’s lover Fernand. Sunday’s premiere will be broadcast live on BR-Klassik, and the performance on 6 November will be streamed on Staatsoper.TV, beginning at 7 pm CET.
