The indomitable Emanuel Ax turned 70 years young this month, and after celebrating in his hometown of New York he returns to Europe for a string of special performances.
He closed the prestigious Master Pianists series at the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam on 16 June by all accounts with a thunderous reception, including an impromptu “Happy Birthday” sung by the audience!
The Wiener Konzerthaus followed on 18 June, and from there he goes to the UK for recitals at Saffron Hall (his debut) on 22 June, and a special concert of all Schumann works at the Wigmore Hall on 25 June, together with friends Sir Simon Keenlyside and the Dover Quartet.
His trip is completed by concerts of the Mozart Piano Concerto No. 17, K453 with the Deutsches Symphonie-Orchester Berlin and Kent Nagano, at the Philharmonie Berlin, Redefin and Bad Kissingen. For details of all of Emanuel’s upcoming performances, check his website.
Many happy returns, Manny!
