Enrique Mazzola conducts the Glyndebourne premiere of Donizetti’s ‘Poliuto’ with Matthew Rose and Timothy Robinson

Enrique Mazzola opens the Glyndebourne Festival tonight with the UK premiere of Donizetti’s Poliuto starring Matthew Rose who sings the role of Callistene alongside Timothy Robinson singing Felice. This production is directed by Mariame Clément, with the London Philharmonic Orchestra. Performances run until 15 July. Matthew will make further appearances at this year’s Glyndebourne festival as Collatinus in Fiona Shaw’s production of The Rape of Lucretia. Later this summer, Enrique makes his debut at the prestigious Rossini Opera Festival (La gazzetta).

‘Donizetti’s rarely seen gem proves a terrific opener to this year’s festival.’
★★★★ – The Observer
‘Perhaps this revival will prompt other companies to take on Poliuto, but you’ll be unlikely to hear it better sung.’
★★★★ – The Guardian
‘Glyndebourne’s season-opener provides a platform for Donizetti’s rarity about a third-century Christian martyr in an accomplished staging by Mariame Clement.’
