Pianist Eric Lu has been announced as one of the seven artists who will join the 2019 BBC Next Generation Artists scheme. The scheme commences on 1 September, the day of Eric’s BBC Proms debut with Long Yu and the Shanghai Symphony Orchestra. Further ahead, he performs at the Barbican with the BBC Symphony Orchestra (under Alpesh Chauhan), the Swedish Chamber Orchestra (Martin Fröst), and the Orchestre National de Lille for an UK Tour (Alexandre Bloch).
This follows on from Eric winning the Leeds International Piano Competition in September 2018, with an acclaimed performance of Beethoven’s Piano Concerto No. 4 with Edward Gardner and the Hallé Orchestra.
Fellow AH artists and BBC NGA alumni include Andrei Ioniță, Fatma Said, Cédric Tiberghien, Alina Ibragimova, Veronika Eberle, Alison Balsom, Robin Tristchler and Jennifer Johnston, while Paul Lewis, who was co-Artistic Director of the Leeds, and Jonathan Biss, Eric’s teacher at the Curtis Institute, are also BBC NGA alumni.
