This week, Evan Rogister rounds off his 2017/18 season making his debut at the Bolshoi Theatre, where he conducts six performances of Puccini’s La bohème to close the theatre’s season. The new production, directed by Jean-Romain Vesperini, features Askonas Holt soprano Dinara Alieva as Mimi and baritone Andrey Zhilikhovsky as Marcello. Performances take place on 24, 25, 26, 27, 28 and 29 July. More information is available on the Bolshoi Theatre website.
Evan has previously conducted Puccini’s tragic love story at both Houston Grand Opera and Deutsche Oper Berlin. Of his performance with Houston Grand Opera, Houston Chronicle‘s Everett Evans said: “Rogister conducts with flash and feeling, guiding a performance that is as persuasive in the tiniest grace notes of orchestration as in the sweeping surges of gorgeous melody.”
Looking further ahead, Evan opens the next season with the Norrköping Symphony Orchestra before returning to Gothenburg Opera for the first instalment of Wagner’s Ring. He will conduct the full cycle over the next four seasons: marking the first time it has been performed at the house, the project culminates in 2021 – the 400th Anniversary of the city of Gothenburg – with Götterdämmerung. Further highlights next season include Ariadne auf Naxos at Theatre du Capitole de Toulouse, and Rienzi at the Deutsche Oper Berlin.
