This Thursday, Dmytro Popov makes his anticipated BBC Proms debut under Andrés Orozco-Estrada and London Philharmonic Orchestra with Verdi’s Requiem. An expert of the work, Dmytro has performed the piece extensively, including a staged production of the work with Staatsoper Hamburg, directed by Calixto Bieito in the 2017/18 season (making further performances in the 2018/19 season).
Further concert performances next season feature Rachmaninov’s The Bells under Vasily Petrenko with the Oslo Philharmonic (a work Dmytro has previously recorded to great acclaim on EMI under Sir Simon Rattle and the Berlin Philharmonic) and Dvorak’s Stabat Mater with Andris Nelsons and Boston Symphony Orchestra. During the 2018/19 season, Dmytro returns to the top international opera houses: Opéra de Paris (Iolanta), Bolshoi Theatre and Deutsche Oper Berlin (Un ballo in maschera), Teatro Regio Torino (La traviata) and Semperoper Dresden (Tosca).
UPDATE 30 August: Karen Cargill has withdrawn from tonight’s Prom due to illness. Dame Sarah Connolly has stepped in to perform the mezzo-soprano role.
