British conductor Finnegan Downie Dear make his Gothenburg Symphony debut this evening with a programme featuring Webern’s Variations for Orchestra, George Benjamin’s A Mind of Winter and Ravel’s Ma mère l’Oye. The concert will be live-streamed on GSOPlay at 20:00 (CEST).
First Prize-winner of the 2020 Gustav Mahler Conducting Competition, Finnegan has already made a number of important debuts this year, including at the Royal Opera House Covent Garden conducting Gerald Barry Alice’s Adventures Under Ground and with the Bamberger Symphoniker for their season opening concerts, sharing the platform with Jakub Hrůša.
After his week in Gothenberg the Berlin-based conductor travels to Vienna for projects with Klangforum Wien, followed by his debut with the Orchestre Philharmonique de Luxembourg with Hänsel und Gretel. Further ahead, he looks forward to returning to the Royal Opera House and Bamberger Symphoniker and debuts with the Melbourne Symphony, Sydney Symphony and London Philharmonic Orchestra.
